About the Author
Patrick Alain is an internationally known developer of some of the best-selling video games, including such titles as the multi-awarded blockbusters Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption. The Leader Phrase Book was born out of Twitter and has quickly amassed a large following. Patrick was born in Paris, France, and has lived in a number of countries throughout his life. Fluent in five languages, he attributes much of his success to his ability to be a vital participant in large, multilingual teams. Patrick holds a master's degree from the University of Paris, and has lived in San Diego, California, since 2004.

Big waste of money

Working as a Trainer/Coach for a big, multinational corporation, I purchased "The Leader Phrase Book" in the hope that I could use it to support my colleagues who are aspiring leaders. Unfortunately I have been disappointed by most of what I read.

A powerful person, a leader, is never rude, because rudeness shows weakness. A leader is supposed to be a role model and a role model needs to have excellent communication skills and show exemplary behavior.

Someone who felt compelled to say "You better shut your mouth before you put your foot in it" (p.26), "Did someone forget their ADD meds" (p.52), "No wonder you don't have any friends" (p.83), "Kiss my ass" (p.85) etc. is acting in a childish, bullying manner and is not the type of person that I could respect or would look up to. Furthermore, "Don't get your knickers in a twist" (p.143) is downright sexist. If anyone I know used half the phrases in this book, I would consider them aggressive, insecure and ridiculous.

The title of the book is misleading, most of these phrases having nothing to do with leadership. I think that "The Smart-Ass Phrase Book" would be a more accurate title.

Laundry list, ethics needed

This book.was a complete disappointment. Basically, it was a list of language to use in certain situations. The author included sarcasm (not a great strategy for 21st century leaders) and idioms (again, not great) He also included Machiavellian techniques and offered ways to make someone look like a fool. this is not the type of leader I want to be!!

I love the different ways to say the same thing. I am told i come off strong so these help me find a softer way to say things. I d wish there was a best practice included. Besides memorization i don't know how else to replace my lingo with this one.

About the Author

Michael P. Nichols is a professor at the College of William and Mary. Dr. Nichols received his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, and his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester. He teaches and practices family therapy, and is the author of numerous journal articles and books, including Inside Family Therapy, The Lost Art of Listening, Stop Arguing with Your Kids, and Essentials of Family Therapy. Martin Luther King Jr exercised a tremendous degree of influence in a movement that between 1955 and 1965 successfully dismantled a system of legalised racial segregation and disfranchisement entrenched for over sixty years in the United States. How did King, who came from a subordinated group within American society, help effect this change? What background, characteristics, abilities and ideas enabled him to do this? Why was King so important in shaping the civil rights movement?
 
John A. Kirk looks at the sources of King¿s power in the black community and its relationship to wider American society, focusing particularly on the role of the black church, the philosophy of nonviolence and issues of leadership, whilst paying due attention to the voices of King¿s critics and detractors and to the limitations of his power. He locates King firmly within the context of other leaders and organisations, voices and opinions, and tactics and ideologies, which made up the movement as a whole.
 
Fifty years after the Montgomery bus boycott, which launched King¿s movement leadership, this book moves beyond the all-too-often oversimplified story of King¿s life and times to provide an innovative analytical framework for understanding the role played by one of the United States¿ most important historical figures.

Wonderful book for the oculoplastics /Orbit surgeon. The illustrations are super and text contains so important summaries. If you are looking for more on basics, pathology and pathophysiology, this may not be the best book (you may consider Smith and Nesi). but for the one looking to learn techniques in orbit surgeries, this is the perfect one. I have gotten what I wanted.

About the Author
Ronald L. Fournier is a professor in the Department of Bioengineering at The University of Toledo. He is also the founding chair of the Department of Bioengineering. During his twenty years at Toledo, he has taught a variety of chemical engineering and bioengineering subjects to include courses in biochemical engineering, biomedical engineering transport phenomena, biomedical engineering design, and artificial organs. His research interests and scholarly publications are in the areas of bioartificial organs, tissue engineering, novel bioreactors, and pharmacokinetics.

Prof. Fournier is on the editorial review board of Technology and Healthcare in the International Journal of Health Care Engineering. He is a research journal reviewer for the following journals: AIChE Journal, Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Biomaterials, Cell Transplantation, Tissue Engineering, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry, and Enzyme & Microbial Technology. It's a text book

What can I say, odds are you have to buy this whether you like it or not. In the off chance that you don't this one of the better Engineering text books. One huge thing is that it has a list of variables in the beginning of the book. This is NOT common in engineering text books and is a great help, especially if you are forgetful like me. It included examples that, while helpful, did not always explain their logical leaps or assumptions.

Great Primer

I just found this book in the new book shelves at the university library. What a find! This book is a perfect primer for someone wanting to learn about the early Civil Rights Movement in the USA. It is also perfect to use in the classroom. The margins are filled with information about the various key players. The author also included a timeline, important documents, a list of important key figures in the movement, and other useful matter.

This book is useful for teachers who teach: American History, Civil Rights, Social Movements, African American History, and American Politics. The book is written well and is not filled with academese. It's an engaging read about a pivotal point in the history of the US.

Great Book!!!

The book is great for getting a very detailed account of the history of the civil rights movement. The terms and the timeline are also very helpful and things that you won't find so clearly laid out in other books.

There are some verbs and descriptions that the author uses too loosely, as though he were there at the historical events about which he's speaking, but it doesn't really matter because you will most likely be reading the book for the historical facts and terminolgy.

It's an easy read and a book that you should keep so that you can go back to it for research and just in general.

A gem of a book!

I bought this book on a lark after somebody on the internet mentioned it and I found that the reviews on amazon were overwhelmingly positive. I'm so glad I took a chance on this book -- I absolutely loved it. It was a great story, jam-packed with love and adventure. Like other reviewers said, it's a bit of Watership Down meets LOTR. But this is selling the story short. It's the characters in this book that make it so captivating. I fell in love with the moles of Duncton Wood and I can't wait to read the sequels which I ordered before I ever finished this 500+ page book

I really can't recommend this book enough and I want to thank the other reviewers on here who made me decide to *risk* 23 cents plus shipping

It's the story of two Moles, Bracken and Rebecca, and the adventures they have as they try to protect Duncton Wood from Mandrake an outsider and oddly enough, Rebecca's father. They must face the problems of mole life head on, while maintaining faith in the stone. It's unfortunate that this novel is being compared with Watership Down, due to the fact that Watership Down, a great novel on it's own, falls short when compared against Duncton Wood. The animal kingdom as shown in Duncton Wood is savage and the survival of the fittest is a fact of life and death. This book is classified as a childrens book, but in truth it is for adults. It is at times as dark as it is uplifting. I recently purchased the other five books in the Duncton series.

Better the Watership Down

This is undoubtedly the best animal fantasy there is. It is along the lines of Watership Down, but far greater. Its characters are moles that act much as moles really do, but with language, intelligence, purpose, religion, and above all spiritual depth. To lend authenticity, the author spent a year studying a colony of moles first hand, as well as educating himself with scientific studies of moles. But then comes imagination, and the imagination is great indeed. The moles (unlike, at least for most of us, real moles) move us and touch us deep in our psyches, deep in our spirits. It is both an earthy and a mystical masterpiece. It is also full of action (for instance, in the fights for leadership, territories, and mates) and adventure (especially in Bracken's journeys in the latter part of the book). If this book has a fault it is that it seems constantly to be ending, then continuing, like a sermon where the preacher is always saying "lastly" and lasts. But for its wisdom, beauty, and imagination, this definately gets 5 stars.
